This is for box full of gritty mix. This has all been hand sifted for optimum sized particles. The pine bark is between 3/8"-1/8", the calcined clay (Turface) and quartz have the fines removed.
By keeping the particles a similar size it eliminates the perched water table which occur in potted plant culture with other mixes. You can see in the picture of the clear cup how there is no water left at the bottom. This can eventually lead to root rot due to the lack of oxygen. The large particle size also provides optimum oxygen to the roots so they can grow fast and healthy. Due to it being made up of mostly mineral components it will last a long time without getting compacted like other soil mixes. Chances are the plant will outgrow the pot first.
