    Description

    FOR ADD-ON PURCHASES ONLY!
If you buy a cactus from me, and for whatever reason, would like a bag of my own planting mix, buy a bag or two of this, as well. THIS IS ONLY AN ADD-ON FOR PURCHASES of a plant from me. I'm not interested in going into the soil selling business, so if you buy a bag of soil from me without an accompanying plant...you're just eating up my time...so don't do it, ok?
When I include this bag of soil in your box, it will probably bump it up in shipping costs. Probably not as much as you paid when you added this bag to your purchase, so of course I'll refund any extra $$ you paid when I box and calculate the shipping costs of your plant (and soil). It's all about the post office charges, and not me.
    What exactly is this?????
This is the mix that I use for my juvenile
    Astrophytum asterias
--as well as any of the cacti that have large tuberous root systems and that are very susceptible to root root.
Specifically, the blend is made using the following three ingredients.
1)Horticultural pumice, also available as Dry-Stall. (For god's sake, not Stall-Dry!)
    2)C
rushed and washed granite. This is NOT decomposed granite, but is rather simply crushed granite. This stuff gives great drainage, but adds weight which ensures the pot is not likely to topple.
    3)
The "succulent mix" available to me through my connections at UC Davis. I don't have the official formula in front of me, but I estimate that it is about 45% scoria, 25% sharp sand, 20% peat, 10% other organic material, plus small amounts of nutrients and other amendments.
To make my planting mix, I create a 4:3 blend of the pumice to washed granite. I call this my
    inorganic mix
. I use this inorganic mix, pure, for all my mature plants. It is awesome for all my cacti, from
    Ariocarpus
    to
    Echinopsis
    to
    Turbinocactus
. Ever since I moved to this, my rotting-out problems have become essentially zip. But of course, I must fertilize lightly with every watering, as this mix has no nutritive value. But hey, I never ever ever have to repot, except to bump plants up in size!
For juvenile plants, that are more prone to drying out, I blend the
    inorganic mix
described above with the UC Davis succulent mix,  with a ratio of 2:1 inorganic:UC Davis.
In the sale photos, I have pics of all the components for  your viewing pleasure, along with some photos from my growing area. The
    Astrophytum
juveniles are (mostly) in the juvenile mix, while the
    Ariocarpus
    are in the inorganic mix.
For each bag you buy, I will scoop out of my planting bin enough soil mix to fill a 3" square plastic horticultural pot.
I will assume you'll want me to send you the juvenile blend. But if you want me to send my inorganic mix instead, message me and I'll do that instead.
Is this THE BEST cactus mix ever?????
    Don't be silly.
So look, everyone has their own special, favorite blend of planting medium for their plants. And what is best for one person might not be best for another--it depends upon your humidity, temperature, etc etc etc. So I'm not going to tell you that my planting mix is "the best." BUT if you want to use the stuff that I do, I'll pull a bag of this out of my planting bin and send it to you.
